Meet Arizona’s 2011 Greenest Workplace

TriSports.com logoTriSports.com’s commitment to sustainability is evident upon arrival at their headquarters in Tucson. Flanking TriSports.com’s 32,000-square foot facility are water harvesting tanks, holding a combined 36,000 gallons of water. By year’s end, a 128kW solar array will provide about 90% of TriSports.com’s energy usage.

This global online and local retailer of triathlon, swim, bike and run products also supports customers’ Green lifestyles through its GreenBox program — customers can choose to receive their orders in recycled boxes, filled with recycled packing materials. Green initiatives are practiced by TriSports.com’s 50 employees, many of whom participate in the company’s incentivized bike-to-work commuter program.

TriSports.com operates a nonprofit company, TriSports Racing, which stages the Deuces Wild Triathlon Festival in June in Show Low, Arizona. The annual event is a certified silver-level Green event through the Council for Responsible Sport.

Shaffer Dry Cleaning & Laundry takes Second Place

Ten years ago, Shaffer made the costly switch to green dry cleaning to benefit the health of their employees, customers and the environment.  Shaffer utilizes the non-toxic, non-allergenic GreenEarth solvent in its dry cleaning process.

The company recycles its hangers, and recycles clothes—Shaffer partners with Angel Charity for Children for its annual resale fundraiser and collects donated clothing for Big Brothers Big Sisters.

Mrs. Green’s Choice Awards

And, last but not least… Congratulations to the TWO “Mrs. Green’s Choice Award” winners in Arizona’s Greenest Workplace Challenge: PopCycle & Goodwill Industries of Southern Arizona. No matter how hard we tried, we simply could not narrow it down to one choice so we made it a tie! We want to acknowledge PopCycle for being the little engine that could and DID work diligently to stay in the top five throughout the voting. They are a small, locally owned business and adored by the Mrs. Green team.

We also selected the Jolly Green Giant of Making a Difference: Goodwill Industries of Southern Arizona. They truly represent an organization making a significant impact in our world – from their retail stores to their programs for at-risk populations and for their outstanding impact on preventing tons of material from going into the landfills. Thanks to both organizations for what you do to make our community & our world a better, healthier place.
