One of my never ending challenges is there is so much to write about, so much to share, so much to learn in Mrs. Green’s World. And I think I  get “hits” on threads that I want to cover. This week the thread seems to be why you should support locally owned businesses no matter where you live and no matter what you are shopping for.  Case in point for today: Bookmans Entertainment Exchange.

Bob Oldfather opened Bookmans years ago. They buy, sell, trade used books, CDs, DVDs, books on tape & many other things. What they buy depends on who is doing the buying that day, what they might be short on etc.  I have tons of friends from every walk of life who frequent Bookmans – including a doctor friend who told me he goes there every Saturday he is in town and buys at least 7 (seven) books.  Would I make that up?

So there’s all the usual stuff about why Bookmans is a good thing, how much they save from going into the landfills, what they offer at their stores in terms of free classes & demos etc. But at the end of the day, what they are all about is helping to create sustainable communities wherever they are located through-out Arizona.  They are top of mind for me this week because they were major sponsors at this month’s Tucson Festival of Books (over 100,000 people in attendance) & now they are off and running as the major sponsors of Greenfest 2011 coming up this Saturday.  Bob is probably wearing everybody out!

I am proud of this partnership and blessed to have them a sponsor of Mrs. Green & green talk radio. Check them out. What are they NOT doing to make the world a more sustainable place? Support your local businesses because they support you.  http://www.bookmans.com/
