When I got a call from Sheila Kressler-Crowley from Bookmans Entertainment Exchange about an “EV Drag Race” I admit I said “a WHAT? What the heck is that?” She proceeded to tell me that there was such a thing as an electric vehicle drag race and that Bob Oldfather, Mr. Let’s Do Something New himself, was reaching out to the community to make it happen. And so the partners have lined up & now it’s going to happen. Why am I not surprised that our friends from PAG’s Clean Cities and Budweiser will be participating to help make it all work?

Not in Tucson? That’s okay – maybe you want to have an electric vehicle drag race in your city! In Tucson, come out and join the green, exciting and cutting edge fun. Rumor has it that Bob Oldfather has issued a challenge to Mrs. Green to join him in one of the vehicles he will be racing. “Drag” me in the car if you can.  I don’t have the need for speed and I would rather visit Bookmans recycling books!

Here is the official announcement with details & please read the last line: Bookmans presents Electric Vehicle Drag Racing on Saturday, April 14, at Southwestern International Raceway at 12000 S. Houghton Road. The races are open to alternative and standard fuel vehicles. Sponsors include the National Electric Drag Racing Association (NEDRA), Budweiser, Tucson Clean Cities – a program of Pima Association of Governments, and Merle’s Southwestern International Raceway. This is a family friendly event with food and refreshments available, and a Green Pavilion will be featured with information on electric vehicles and other alternative fuel vehicles. Admission is $5 and children 10 and under are free. Some of the expected participants are Bill Dube with the Killacycle, which has a winning time of 7 seconds. John Wayland will be there with his White Zombie, John Metric with the DC Plasma, Brian Hall with his Tron, Dennis Berube will have his Smokescreen, driven by Bob Boyd. Most of these vehicles have 9 and 10 second finishes. According to Chip Gribben of NEDRA, this could be one of the largest gatherings with the fastest EV race cars in the world.
