Western Sky Communications
As owner of Western Sky Communications, the most important thing I do is run a car-free business. My primary form of transport is the bicycle. I also walk, ride the bus, and carpool.
This enables my business carbon footprint to stay low. It also cuts costs.
How does this company exemplify the concept of “reusing”?
Hmmm, I’m sitting in a used office chair purchased from someone who was heading into retirement. It’s in a studio that also has two used bookshelves. And I love junk mail! Why? Because the blank backs of those letters make great scratch paper.
What is this company’s recycling policy and practice?
I recycle paper, discards I find around town (one of my bookshelves was found by a dumpster), and food scraps (got a 55-gallon composter in the back yard). I’m also a huge fan of the Freecycle. Better to give something away instead of tossing it into the landfill.
How is this company engaging and informing consumers and employees about the 3 “Rs” and other sustainable practices?
I don’t have any employees. It’s just me, myself, and I. But I love to tell anybody and everybody about the advantages of using one’s own power to get around. It isn’t just good for the waistline. The wallet also benefits.
What else would you like us to know about this company?
I’ll be on the Watershed Management Group’s October 19 Homescape Tour. Come by and learn about water harvesting on the cheap!
