How does the company you are nominating exemplify the concept of “reusing”?
The Fairfax Companies takes in materials that were once considered “waste”, and turns them into value-added products. Landscape “waste” becomes rich organic garden products. Dairy manure was considered “waste” when it left the dairy, but is an important ingredient for creating organic compost, rich in nutrients. White wood “waste”, such as old pallets or lumber, can be turned into a clean-burning firelog or building block. It can also be used by Frito-Lay for boiler fuel, for heating oil to make our favorite snacks. Broken concrete can be crushed, screened, and reused as aggregate. Etc…

How is this company engaging and informing consumers and employees about the 3 “Rs” and other sustainable practices?
The consumers come to Fairfax seeking more sustainable services and solutions. The option to RRR is advertised to them, for construction/demolition projects, to garden and landscape. The employees are the lucky folks that get to carry out the tasks of physically transforming those “wastes” into recycled materials, inherently engaging and learning about more sustainable practices.

The Fairfax Companies also installed solar panels, LED lights, aquaponics systems, and more. The landscape at the main office will soon be transformed to a sustainable landscape demonstration site.
The Fairfax Companies supports countless schools, non profits, the food bank, and other organizations by financial and in-kind donations.
