Co-presented by Biosphere 2 and The Loft Cinema

The Beneath the Waves Film Festival is a nationally-touring program that aims to encourage, inspire, and educate scientists, advocates, and the general public to produce and promote engaging marine-issue documentaries. The festival showcases marine-themed short films from all over the world that can help create discussion and activism around the vital issue of ocean conservation. This special event will include ten short films and a post-screening panel discussion featuring University of Arizona faculty and members of the Tucson community.

A free public event to honor the late Rafe Sagarin’s contributions will be held on Thursday September 17th from 2pm-5pm in the Agnese Nelms Haury lecture theater (ground floor) in the University of Arizona’s Environment and Natural Resources building, 1064 E Lowell Rd.  There will be speakers on topics and projects that Rafe worked on including ecology and oceans, natural/national security, and art and education.  This special event will also be a reception.  Rafe Sagrin was a marine ecologist and the Program Director for the Ocean at Biosphere 2.
