Drowning in Plastic

Broadcast on 2015/05/16 (PT)

wp-DiannaCohenDianna Cohen, CEO and Co-Founder

The Plastic Pollution Coalition is working to help END our cycle of plastics use – yes – END! Dianna was inspired to co-found the group by her work as an artist because her chosen material is the ubiquitous plastic bag. In one bio I read about her she writes: “Having worked with the plastic bag as my primary material for the past fifteen years, all of the obvious references to recycling, first-world culture, class, high and low art give way to an almost formal process which reflects the unique flexibility of the medium.” With the Plastic Pollution Coalition, she helps to raise awareness of ocean waste — the majority of which is nondegradable plastic — and everyday strategies to cut down the amount of plastic we use and throw away. This show was made possible due to the generous support of The Fairfax Companies.

sadly, the state of florida prohibits municipalities from passing any regulations having to do with plastic bags; right now surfrider foundation is working hard with like minded individuals to convince localities to petition the state to adopt a pilot program in coastal areas of the state

this interview with dianna cohen has been phenomenal

Dear Chris – thank you for writing. I am truly becoming a bit too obsessed with plastic pollution and honestly admit to feeling the situation is hopeless at times. When someone takes the time to write, it brings me hope. Sorry I did not see this sooner and I hope you will spread the word about the interview with Dianna Cohen. It will help.

      Many thanks and many blessings,
      Gina aka Mrs. Green
