Let’s Get Rolling
Think walking, think bike riding, think roller skating, think skateboarding, think fun! Cyclovia Tucson is all that and more. It’s a day in Tucson where there are miles of car-free open streets where people gather to connect with dozens of neighborhoods and businesses that make where we live so unique. It has truly become one of Tucson’s most popular events & continues to experience phenomenal exciting growth. This FREE multi-modal event is on Sunday, November 2 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Save the date!A little bit of history? A program of Living Streets Alliance, Cyclovia Tucson is now a biannual event made possible in part by support from Pima Association of Governments (PAG), Pima County and the City of Tucson, among other sponsors. Some 20,000 people are expected to take part in southern Arizona’s largest event that celebrates and promotes safe and active transportation. Cyclovia Tucson is yet another example of a successful public/private partnership. And I have to bring up the fun factor one more time.
There is a new route for the very FIRST autumn Cyclovia. How to find it? It runs along the 4th Avenue/Fontana Bike Boulevard for 2.6 miles. Expect to find fabulous food trucks, local vendors selling cool stuff, and great music during the entire event. Taking your family? It is encouraged! There are dozens of free family-friendly activities along the route, such as the GABA Bike Swap and Cyclocross races. Are you ready for Zumba, jump rope performers and the book mobile, plus loads of exhibitors with really cool stuff to see, touch and take at the PAG Activity Center in the Keeling neighborhood? We hope so because Cyclovia Tucson has it all.
If you’ve never been on a bike or haven’t been on yours for a while, this is a great way to get out and get comfortable again in a vehicle-free environment to build confidence in taking your bike riding to the next level, as a commuter or to other destinations. Plus it’s a great way to meet new people – nice people who like to be out doing fun things in our community and with common interests.
Check out this website for a full schedule of all the activities at www.cycloviatucson.org. Not wanting to bike it? Not a problem! You can also sign up to volunteer at the website and be a part of the fun by offering your help.
I hope to see you there and I hope you spread the word!
