What the Frack? Part Two

I have to admit I was a bit surprised when I got the notice about the contentious hearings on fracking last week. Would swear on a stack of bibles that I didn’t know that when I wrote my last newsletter.  I have been reading about and doing research on fracking for months trying to make up my own mind about what I think. The movie Gashole Gasland haunts me – I admit it.

My conclusion?  Once again, it’s complicated.  I really don’t like to keep saying that but it’s the truth. At this writing, I am simply asking the questions: Can’t the big gas companies develop a responsible, eco-friendly drilling process or at the very least find a way to clean up their toxic messes? Or will that impact their earnings per share too much?  Do you think they care about sustainable communities or the almighty dollar? And why would people, ordinary folks like you and me, take the trouble to go to D.C. to share their horror stories unless they wanted to make things better for the next guy?  I’m starting to lean in one direction. Can you tell?

Thanks to Jason Cook and his impressive team for emailing me about a great article about fracking in his magazine. I realized I mistakenly called the movie Gashole instead of Gasland. I hope you will take the time to read it because it clearly articulates more of the big gas companies total lack of regard for safety and the environment.
